I have a 4 year old who is going into K soon and she is happy about going to school but I am tiring to find the right school for her what do I need to know to make that choice. What question do i need to ask?
What can I do to help my child learn more?

You might first ask youself - what is it you want? Do you want a very academic kindergarten? Do you want a kindergarten that emphasizes child development?
It's best to go and visit the schools. You can bombard them with questions over the phone but I'd confine my phone questions to this - what's your limit on class size in kindergarten through 5th? If they tell you 30 for any age between K and 5, try hard to find another school. If they tell you 25, that's still too many but it's a typical answer and go and take a look at that school. 18 would almost an ideal answer but I'd be happy with 20.
Class size is the single most important factor - smaller class sizes can turn bad teachers into better ones. Smaller class sizes help shy students become confident students. Smaller class sizes create a sense of community that leaves students looking forward to come back to school each day.
Any school that works to keep its classes smaller is likely also working to make other good decisions as well. Class size is very telling of what's going on in a school.
But all schools should be visited - you will get a very good sense of the school by being there. Are the students happy and smiling? The teachers too? Go and visit in the kindergarten room. Is the teacher warm in their manner toward the children? Is the room bright and cheerful? Is it a fairly ordered place to be or does chaos reign?
You're fortunate to have a choice of schools - not every parent does. I'm sure you'll make the right choice for your child.
The fact that she can point to "A" if you ask her to shows that she understands the sounds. She just might not be ready to say them on her own.
Flashcards, books and singing the "A, B, C's" are the best ways to encourage her to learn them, in my opinion.
she can pisk out the letter but she dose not know the sounds that they make and I have been working with her she just doesn't know them what can I do I want her to learn but maybe I am not getting throw all on my own. I think I need like a program to help her. Any ideas that will help?
Do you mean she can't match up the sound of the letter "A" to the picture of the letter "A" or do you mean she physically can't make the sound for "A"?
okay so I know about the links but I am wanting to work with her at home. She knows her abc and can pick them out but she can not make the sounds. How can I teach her what the sounds are? Is there a program that I can get to get her started?
