There is a huge variety of ability levels among children with handicaps; some schools may have better facilities for students who have physical disabilities, while other schools have good reputations for students who have reading disabilities, or ADHD, etc. What grade is your child in, and if you don't mind saying, what are their special needs?
If you can't get a direct answer from the public school district, I recommend that parents try to network through local support groups for families with children who have similar needs, in order to find out the best schools and resources in a given area. Your child's doctors should be able to direct you to appropriate support organizations.
May I suggest contacting the school district directly to inquire about resources for handicapped children?
