interestingly we had the opposite problem wih our school posting - some of us wanted to post insight and our comments were not posted as they were not nice enough - so there seems to be some fickleness in the review process by great schools, which was very disappointing to say the least . So, I guess as with ANYTHING in life take what you read - or hear - with a huge grain of salt.... even on a web site as fancy-smancy as this one :-)
I am a parent who volunteered at this school and saw that is is all about the teachers. I am also puzzled by the test scores. Moving to this district was a huge mistake for us. They seem to cater to kids with learning problems to get extra funding and then they don't have to test. If your child is bright, normal and a boy I wouldn't move here.
Thanks for answering my question. I agree with you that an angry parent (or a disgruntled student) can make the ratings really look bad for that school. I'm sure that is what happened because it doesn't make sense that the test results would be that good if they didn't have dedicated teachers and leadership.
Hi. I'm not from Oklahoma, but I think I can explain. The Greatschool rating numbers are strictly based on how students at the school do on statewide testing, compared to other children in the same state. 1 is lowest, 10 is highest. So, just based on the latest year's test results that are available, Verdigree students did pretty well overall, compared to other OK high school students.
Parent ratings are based on a multitude of factors, and if there are problems with a new administration, or lack of communication, or lousy facilities, or other problems, their comments will more likely to reflect those issues. I also want to caution that although it says "parent ratings" I think sometimes disgruntled students sign up for this site, pretending to be parents, and they enter artificial ratings. Never let a single source of information (Greatschools ratings or anything else) be the only factor in your decision of where to send your student. If you can, make an in-person visit.
