help I need advice

strive4mybaby
I just had a conference with my daughters' pre-school teacher in regards to her starting kindergarten this September. My daughter has a late b-day (november) and if you loook at what the evaluation said it totally contridicts what was actually said at conference as the teacher was recommending I keep her in pre-school another eyar as she will go into Kindergarten one step ahead and if I go ahead and put her in this year she may have a harder time. Of course she is my daughter so I was kinda put out because I think she is amazingly smart and so did the evaluation. I am very confused!! I want to do what is best fr her andfeel that moving forward would be best and that I should go ahead with kindergarten this year but now I am having second thoughts what to do? PLEASE HELP

I believe in socializing your child is best for her at this time. Helping her to interact with kids her age will help her to mature and grow developmentally. Putting her in kindergarten is one thing but you need to do your part at home so she wont stay behind. These are the things you can do to help your child stay ahead of the game:
1. Read stories to her everyday. Story books on tapes are great way to help her develop listening skill.

2. Give her ample space to color, draw and paint. This will help to develop her fine motor skill.

3. Take her to the library and help her to choose books. Also, sign up for children programs at the library. There are many. This will provide her with the opportunity to meet other kids and learn as well.

4. Take her to parks and museums. Children learn from play as well as exploring new things.

There have been quite a few parents who have been in similar situations, but every child is different. In general, young boys have a harder time than girls with fine motor skills (ie, writing) and sitting still, paying attention, as well as getting along socially. I'd like to recommend that you join Greatschools "Kindergarten Parents" Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11535, where more parents can tell you what their experiences have been like.
