My daughter is in grade 9 and will be transferring for grade 10. Her English is not great. There is no French high school in the city. What can I do? Your recommendations are welcome.
Moving from France to Irvine, CA

Bonjour et bienvenue a Irvine!
Actually, there is a LILA (French) school in Santa Ana, close enough to Irvine. If you want the kids to finish in French, this offers the French bacalaureat + the American diploma in one program.
6eme = 6th grade in US (we're backwards but that's where the two cross). This is the last year of "elementary" school.
5eme = 7th grade, which moves from "elementary" school to "middle" school.
To find which school your address is mapped to, to go www.IUSD.org. On the left you'll see menus for schools and maps where you can type in your address. You also have the option to ask for a different school in the district if you don't like your neighborhood school.
We are French/American so if anyone would like to contact me and get more info, or just connect, send me an email at loriboulard@yahoo.com.
A bientot, Lori
Sole1811, If you click on "Research and Compare" on the green menu bar near the top of this page, you can enter a city or zip code and find out what schools are located nearby. Your children can enroll in school in March. The school will probably want to see their birth certificates, proof of residency of where you will be living, and updated medical/innoculation records, and if you have examples of their work it might help with placement issues (for example, to see what their math abilities are.)
I will be moving from France to irvine too, at the end of march, how old is your daugther?
I have two daugthers one in 6eme and the other in 5eme here in france, but for them I don't think the English will be any problem as they are English. do you know wich grade is that in the US 6eme and 5eme?.
I'm looking for public school in Irvine code postale 92606.
is Middle school they should be going?
any one knows any good midle school in Irvine 92606 ?
Can they start at the end of March even know that is only 2 months before the end of the year?
Thank you
I know when I learned French, I was pretty fluent at the end of 4 months intensive study. If immersion study can be done for the summer, I think you could be fine.
I know the Lycee International of Los Angeles (http://www.lilaschoolcom) offers the international baccalaureate curriculum and is bilingual, but it is in Los Angeles. I believe students who go to their K-6 Orange County campus often go ahead and travel to L.A. Not sure what transportation arrangements are made--other private schools have parent paid buses I know. There are also schools (unfortunately not in Irvine) that follow the international baccalaureate program--some private, some public--check out the IB web page.
The English Learner system in the Irvine school district can be a bit confusing--just ask a lot of questions, and see if you can connect with other EL parents who have navigated the process before you. You may also sign a waiver to not follow the English Learner track if you wish.
