Mesquite schools are no better than most. If you try to move your child to a Mesquite school I would suggest Elementary schools that feed into Kimbrough Middle School and Poteet High School. They are far better than the others. Their tests scores reflect that as well. I could not get either of my children transfered to an elementary over there or Kimbrough middle school though-and I live in Mesquite. I managed a transfer to Terry Middle School which was not worth the major effort that it was. It is very bad. It is however not as bad as Berry or some of the others. Terry is very over crowded 35-40 kids a class in the 6th grade classes. Lots of fights. A kid busted open a pencil sharpener and took out the blade and tried to use it as a weapon last week. And that is not near as bad as some of it. It is not the schools as much as it is our society. So honestly it does not matter where you go-it is all bad. Some schools just have a better handle over it than others. Mesquite tries, but sometimes their attempts to cover up are more important to them than cracking down and exposing some of the problems that are going on.

Hi DanielleCain and welcome to GreatSchools Parent Community.

The Mesquite Independent School District website is located here: www.mesquiteisd.org/contact.html

Contact them on Monday and ask what programs they have for open enrollment or inter-district transfers. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
