Looking for Co-Teaching elementary school for SPecial needs child

eswarg
Dear Parents,
I have 7 years old very high functioning son who is in second grade now. We are looking for elementary schools who use co-teaching methods for special needs students. (Co-teaching = Special needs + Typical kids are in the same class. Special ed and General ed teacher is avaliable in the class room all day. This way students are not pulled out for services).

Thanks,
Eswar

The best way of finding out which school offers Co teaching classrooms is by contacting your county's director of special education.

Welcome. Greatschools is a nationwide forum, and unfortunately the chance of finding another family from the same town, with a child of similar age, and with similar needs, is slim. I'm not from VA, but I have a son with special needs. I always recommend that parents try to network through local support groups in their community for whatever kind of disability their children have, because fellow parents understand what you're going through, and are often the best sources to find out about good schools, doctors, and other resources in a given area.
When you say your son is high functioning, is he on the autism spectrum? Aspergers? In my community, there are special support groups just for Aspie families, but www.thearc.org is a nationwide organization that may be able to help you. Greatschools also has a group for parents of kids with Learning and Attention Difficulties at community.greatschools.net/groups/11554
