i do not understand you have taking a test 6 months prior to graduating and they will not pass you, then maybe the school should not put so much pressure of kids to memorize this stuff when the real world contsts of things that are not taught in the FL school system. You should be able to retake the test that you did not do well on or your grades from your class shoud balance it out.

Well, the math, and written part of the ACT are good to score on. However, you ONLY need a good score at the Reading, so really try to focus on the Reading section. Also American Gov is a class you would want to get an A in. That will benefit your GPA. Also concentrate in the Intensive Reading class, I never liked the class, however you always want to take advantage of times to study for your FCAT.

Yes, I would definitely say that reading the New York Times helps enhances your Vocabulary skills and reading skills.

I wish you the best of luck!!

Well, since you’re a senior. You should really talk to a teacher, guidance counselor, or administrator (I recommend talking to all three). What you need to keep in mind, is that when taking the SAT you are doing more sections in the test, than you would be for your ACT. So when you do take the ACT, ONLY concentrate on the reading portion. Because that is the ONLY score that will matter to you. So when taking, the math, writing, etc, just speed through those. Really concentrate your hardest on ONLY the reading section. When you do get your scores, you will look at what you scored on the reading portion only. Most schools and teachers really don't tell you this, because they want you to do great through-out the WHOLE test. However, you need to keep in mind, that you only need to pass the reading FCAT to graduate. Therefore, concentrating on the reading portion of the ACT is the best. Since you are from another country, what I recommend is that you read the New York Times once a day for about 20-30 mins. Why? Because it helps boost your vocabulary skills, in addition you learn new things. It will defiantly make a difference for your grades in school, and your scores on these tests. Your 3.0 GPA isn't as bad you think. If you really want to make your GPA go up, then you should do three things:
1. You really need to work your hardest in your core classes, which are your (math, reading, science, etc) all the basic classes. Since those are your core classes, those will be the classes that improve your GPA. So even if you have a ‘C’ in your elective classes, yet have A's in your core classes, your GPA should drastically change to your advantage.
2. Always think of new ways of studying, I'm no teacher, and to some this may seem boring, however it really does help. “Reading”. Read anything, I always suggest the NY Times, because it is a great way to learn new things, and new terms, plus it also helps learn new reading strategies.
3. Try to relax, and not think about it. Just do everything that you feel you can do, and that is all you can do. You have come this far, so don't let one test stress you out. Make the better of it; think of it as a better way to make your GPA go up. Always take into consideration different ways to study, take a certain amount of time each day to just do something educationally.

When I was in the position I was in, I was threatened by the principal of my school, and my guidance counselor that I was NOT going to graduate.
So even though, I was taking three core classes, plus the Editor-in-Chief of my high school newspaper, President of two clubs, and also taking online classes and night school. I wouldn’t let these things prevent me from my graduation. I made it my goal to graduate, and that's all I concentrated on. I just worked my hardest to getting just that.
With all that stress and I even ended up in the hospital a couple times my senior year, just because of the amount of stress, I did NOT take into consideration that I would NOT graduate.

From this day, I do not regret anything I did, or said. Since it is my life, and I was determined to move on, I worked hard to get where I am today. Always keep that in mind.

Take heart. There are several options open to you. You can have several opportunities to take the FCAT.

Do you have an IEP? If so, you have some additional options available to you and may qualify to take an alternative assessment. Take a look at the following web sites:

fcat.fldoe.org/pdf/fcatpass.pdf

I hope that you are able to get a standard diploma through these measures. If not you might want to explore getting a G.E.D. Here is information available on GED:
