Looking for Schools in St. Cloud, FL

Anonymous
Help! My husband and I are trying to find a good school for our daughter who will be starting Kindergarten in the fall. If we decided to send her to public school she will go to SEC which has gotten pretty good reviews and I feel pretty good about it. However, my husband is leaning more toward a private school. We are currently looking at Southland Christian. Just wondering what some of you parents have to say about these institutions. Also, we don't currently attend a church in St. Cloud, can anyone recommend a contemporary, dynamic church in the area. We prefer a non-denominational Christian if possible. Thanks!

My daughter's attend City of Life Christian Academy. (formerly known as Heartland Christian Academy as gjmatias mentioned above). I recommend this school to everyone who has children and live in the Kissimmee/St. Cloud area. Although, I do know of a parent who travels from Orlando...as far as Alafaya Trail, (45 minute drive) just so that their child will receive a great education.
This school has changed our lives. My children's attitudes have changed, and their grades have also...for the better.
For those who are in need, they accept scholarships from Children's First.

Neptune elementry is a "C" school (in St. Cloud). My son currently goes there. I am very unhappy with the schools preformance. I am sad that I have no choice in the matter since he is not "zoned" for another school, other that canoe creek (also a "C" school). He used to go to an "A" school, and he made honor roll 3-4 times. Now he seems to have lost some intrest. When I moved to St. Cloud I was told by other people that live in the area that he would be "zoned" for Lakeview. When I get to L akeview they tell me "Oh you used to be "zoned" for this School but not this year", whats that all about? I checked the zoning maps in my area, and found out that, unfortunatly all the "A" schools have the most % of whites. All the the "c" schools have the most black & hispanics. Please see for yourself. Check the demorgraphics & ethnicity tabs. Can someone tell me why?? Why does my child have less chances for a better education that others within my town? By the way, Lakeview is about the same distance as Neptune elementry. Modern day segragation anyone???

I have lived in St. Cloud my entire life and know people that have kids in all the schools around St. Cloud. My daughter is in 4th grade and goes to Lakeview. We are very happy with this school. She was enrolled in Michigan Ave at the beginning of the school year but we moved her to Lakeview. When she was at Michigan Ave, she was put in a portable which was not located close to the school so when it rained, they had to wait to switch classes. When we went to "meet your teacher" before school began, one of her teachers never introduced herself to us or asked my child her name. The first day of school, we also felt the staff was rude and didn't make us feel welcome at all. As far as some of the other schools.....
My daughter also attended St. Cloud Elem from K-2nd and we were happy with that school also.
I have a friend that has her children in Hickory Tree Elem and they love that school also.
My niece worked at Narcoossee Community School and said the teachers and staff are really great there. She also said they are one of the only schools this year that still had money in their budget.
I have another friend that goes to Harmony and they have also been happy with it. It is little far from town though.
I think all of the elem schools in St. Cloud are still listed as "A" schools so I think it all depends if you and your child like the teacher.
As for a church, we attend Cornerstone which is located on Canoe Creek Road, www.cornerstonefamily.com . My husband and I were not raised in or around church and we love this church. They have a great children's church and you can pretty much wear what you want (shorts, flip flops, jeans, etc). It is a larger church and the pastor is wonderful and keeps it very interesting. The music is also great. They offer a lot of different classes and small groups to get involved with also. I would highly recommend it!! I hope all of this info will help you a little bit.

hey, you should try any of the top 5 schools they have listed. they are all great( A ) schools. St. cloud does NOT have any churches u discribed ( I checked). They do have one called : city of life church. My family and I attend. (cityoflifechurch.com) It is in Kissimmee about 1 mile from St. Cloud. It used to be called heartland. They also have a christian school.
