We moved here to Cordova from Seaborg, Fl (an hour northwest of Orlando). My twins are currently going to Shamrock Elem. The school is OK but I have had major issues with parent/teacher communication. Since our Fl home has finally sold (AMEN!), we are looking for a new home in either Collierville, Arlington or Lakeland. My first priority is schools. City schools are not that great, they have funding issues and the great teachers are relocating to better and safer schools. When Bailey Station Elem opened a couple of years ago, many of Chimneyrock's great teachers changed schools. Chimneyrock is currently a county school but might become a city school next year.
There is a good chance we will be moving to Arlington - by summer. We can find a great house, good schools and be in a safe environment for my kids. Those are all #1 reasons to live in Arlington.
The one downside is that Arlington schools are a little crowded. All schools in Fl are crowded so I can dealing with it.
If anyone wants to talk more one on one with me about this, email me at twinsplusme@aol.com. I would be happy to talk to you.

Have you looked into White Station any? I have many friends that go to Arlington and have also considered going there. But, because of its great education and extra-curricular activities, White Station is a better school for me. I personally think it's better than any Shelby County school and shouldn't even be compared to other Memphis City Schools.

We're actually up in Germantown, MD. I guess that's a little confusing. We are up here on a year long assignment. We're headed back to Oxford, Mississippi in four months.

Collierville is a beautiful area. Lots of really nice homes. But I have heard that crime is starting to move that way.

What about Olive Branch, Mississippi? I've heard really good things about the schools there.

I have a lot...and I mean a lot of friends who either have husbands who work in Memphis or who themselves work in Memphis....and live in Oxford, Mississippi. It makes for a long commute...about an hour each way. But the schools are excellent in Oxford! Oxford is a university town with almost no crime at all. We love it! It's expensive, but so worth it.

Yes, I have been told from many that the city schools are not a good choice. We are strongly considering Shelby County Schools. ( Arlington Middle).

You would not want to send your children to just any Memphis City School. They are typically filled with low-class "gangsters" that care very little about school. HOWEVER, it is also the school system of one of the best high schools and middle schools in Tennessee! It seems all of Memphis City School's effort is concentrated into two schools: White Station Middle and White Station High. Your kids would love school here! The middle has a brand new building and provides the best environment around. I currently go there, and I actually enjoy the school day. Definitely consider this school or a Shelby County school.

We are from Mississippi. I worked in Memphis for years And my sister's husband is from Memphis. His mother got a job working in a private school to keep him out of the Memphis City Schools. From what I understand, they are horrible.

I've heard good things about Olive Branch Mississippi. Collierville used to be a great area! Not sure now.

Collierville/Germantown are good schools. My understanding city schools are not that great. Feel free to contcact me privately and we can talk more one on one. My husband has been here since Feb 08. The kids and I did not relocate until Aug 08 (start of school year). we moved here from Florida.
