I'm not sure where to start, or who to talk to. How to find out what schools are in my district.I keep getting told to wait intill feb-april depending on what person has said it,for open enrollment.I want to have choices and to not feel like I am wasting my time.

I just want to add that talking to other parents is a really great way to discover the ins and outs of a school district.

You should make an appearance in person to your school district office to start so you can find out what schools you are zoned for and to get more information on the enrollment process. But it sounds like you want to have some schools in mind by the time open enrollment starts.
Our school choice center is a good place to get an idea of what you're looking for in a school: www.greatschools.net/content/schoolChoiceCenter.page

Then you can use GreatSchools to find schools in your area that interest you by using the Research and Compare feature. It's in the green toolbar above. But here's the link as well: www.greatschools.net/modperl/go/CA

Once you've decided on some schools call them to find out when they have tours. Visiting a school is the best way to get a feel for it.

Welcome to GS community. Call your local school district administrative office or visit any school office in your district. Any building Principal will be able to help you.

Good luck!
