Your question is rather vague. My son's school said to anticipate about 10 minutes of homework per night per grade, so a 6th grader could expect about 60 minutes (an hour) worth of work. Not all of the work would involve reading textbook materials, but I've always been told that if a child doesn't have any other homework on a given night, tell them to set aside that time for reading something quietly, anyway.
