Grading Northshore Christian Academy

emmetweems
My son is in Kindergarten at NCA, he is bored. I like the school but am finding that it is behind academically from the rigours of public schools and i am surprised. We live in a school district where the public schools have poor ratings, so until we move local public school is out. So, anyone else find that Northshore is not as academically strong than the public schools in Everett and Mukilteo? How do you compare Private with Public if Private schools dont have WASLs?

A couple things to think about-- kindergarten brings in kids from all states of readiness, so it is as much about socialization as learning the abc's. See how first grad goes. While I am a public school parent, I often look into private because I know our public schools in Washington are way underfunded and too 'hit or miss'. I urge all parents-- public and private-- to contact their legislators and urge support for K-12 because we all benefit from well-educated and engaged kids in WA.

My child also goes to Northshore (first grade)because the public schools in our area are poor and I never have a problem with her being bored. She is one of the top students in her class, reading on a third grade level. You can always ask for support from the teacher to start with and if that fails go to Mrs. Walla, VP. If he's bored in reading, ask to be a part of the accelerated reader program. In Kindergarden, the homework was a little too easy, so she would occasionally get extra papers to do. Also, they were put in reading groups with other kids closer to their own level, but I think that was the second half of the year. This let the accelerated kids really take off with reading.
As far as comparing to Everett and Mukilteo, I really don't know. I know Mukilteo schools are good, and Everett is more hit and miss. If you are dissatisfied, I would certainly display your concerns. I found that they are always open to meeting with parents.
