Help Please!!! What are considered the best "well-rounded" schools in the Orlando area?

reeves902
We are relocating to the Orlando area from a small town in the midwest. I am basing our entire move around an excellent elementary school for my 5 year old. Can anyone tell me which schools have a good reputation for academics, extra-curriculars, etc... Also, are they in good communities? Thanks for your help.

If you haven't already tried using the "Research and Compare" tool on the green menu bar near the top of this page, that's the first thing to do. Once you see a list of the schools in the Orlando area, you can click on the individual school names to read parent comments and more details about them.
To tell you the truth, there aren't many elementary schools that I know of, anywhere in the U.S., that have "good extra-curriculars" for younger students, but if you're talking about daycare availability, or independent activities like scouts or park district sports teams, you might want to speak to the PTA parents, who can probably give you better information about what's available in the local area.

I've used the "Research & Compare" numerous times, but I feel that "talking" to parents one-on-one always gives a better feel for each school's situation. As far as extra-curricular, I suppose I met what is offered within the school day such as music, art, library, computer, physical fitness, etc... Academics are important to me, but these areas of learning are just as important. Thanks for helping!

I think the schools & community are nice in Casselberry/Winter Springs. It's north of Orlando. Check it out. Sterling Park Elem. is a 9.

Winter Park is also a premium area. It is closer within Orlando metro. It's an expensive neighborhood, with trendy shops, and private schools.

Look at the Florida Department of Education website for school grades. They don't tell everything about a school but they are a good start. Some nice areas are Waterford Lakes, Lake Nona, Winter Park some of the areas by downtown. It depends on how much you have to spend. A lot (but not all) of the better rated schools are in more expensive areas.
