Atlanta is a large area made up of city life and many suburbs. greatschools.net can help you sort through schools but schools largely in part vary across the city. If you narrow down where you would like to live based upon rather you need to be close to work, or downtown, or what have you, then choosing rather you want urban living or suburban living and then most importantly, the type of house and price range you are in, that would greatly help you reduce your choices. I am a Realtor in the area so if you have more questions, feel free to ask.

I am resident of Douglasville and love it because it is about 20mins from downtown, 20 mins from airport, and a family friendly suburb with homes that are not on top of each other. The commute to Zoo Atlanta from Douglasville would be less than a half hour if that seems reasonable to you. In Atlanta, that is considered good. There are some neighborhoods closer to the Zoo but it all depends on what you prefer as far as neighborhood, community, price range of house. I am a Realtor in the area so if you have additional questions, feel free to ask.

Have you tried using the "Research and Compare' feature on the green menu bar near the top of this page, to see what elementary schools are in Atlanta? You might also try using the "Search Community By Keyword" feature that's in the upper right corner of this page, and look for previous conversations about Atlanta.
Once you've identified schools of interest, then you can contact a local realtor to find a home that fits your budget in the appropriate school attendance boundaries; it's impossible for us to advise you on housing.
