I am trying to decide where to send my twin boys to high school-Centennial or Riverwood High School?

We are trying to decide which high school to send our boys to next year-Centennial HS or Riverwood HS. They have been homeschooled since fifth grade, do well in school and want to play football-- both HS have great academic and social programs. Riverwood is a smaller school than Centen. but Cente. is a lot closer??????

I have an 8th grader at Haynes Bridge, zoned for Centennial, and have struggled with this question myself. My kid is strong academically and wants to play volleyball. My whole family is school teachers, one is a prinicipal, so we processed this question at length. She pushed me to look at International Baccaulaureate, so I have considered Riverwood primarily for that reason. Bottom line is we're sticking with Centennial, because the AP/honors program is strong, testing scores are better, sports are stronger, and we live closer which means her friends will be easier to get together with socially. Most importantly, she will already have supportive friendships in place with "good" kids, and often the peer group is just as important as academic environment.

I went to Riverwood HS and lived in the Centennial district where my sister went to school (Centennial wasn't built at the time I was in high school so either way I was going to be on a long ride to school.)

I liked that Riverwood was a smaller school with the International Studies Magnet program (which is why I chose to go there.) I was able to be extremely active in the school community and participated in sports programs.

That said, if you are looking for your boys to get media exposure for scouting purposes, you'd be better off sending them to Centennial.

Unfortunately, Greatschools is a nationwide forum, and the chance of finding another poster from the same town, with kids the same age, who have similar interests, is slim.
I'm not from GA, but my personal opinion, if your sons have been homeschooled, is that the smaller environment may be an easier transition...In addition, the competition for spots on the football team may be less intense, if there are fewer students trying out.
