my child is in a daycare in metairie and recently broke his leg (not at the daycare center). He's in a cast now and the daycare center says it can't take him back until the cast is off. Is that the proper treatment?
no sanitation issues as he is potty trained. i think the big issue is he is in a class upstairs so someone would have to carry him anytime they would go downstairs. thanks for the feedback. it's probably best we hold him out anf find alternative means.
When it comes to schools that receive federal money, they aren't allowed to discriminate against people with disabilities, but a private preschool can probably establish its own guidelines. I'm wondering how old your child is? In addition to the issues MSMomm mentioned, could there be sanitation concerns, like problems with diapering/toileting?
If that's the daycare policy, then yes. Personally, if my child had a cast on any appendage, I would be hesitant to send him/her back to daycare. Young children aren't always aware of their surroundings, and there's a greater chance of injury to other children, or further injury to the incapacitated child.
The school also has to consider liability to the center and its employees should a child return with a cast on.
