Are there any "School of the Arts" programs in the Durham/Cary/Apex area?

momto2a
We are moving from S FL to the Raleigh Durham area in a few weeks. My son is in the band here and in the drama club at church. He is very involved and has a love and gift for the arts, is there schools that offer such programs in these areas?

NC is ranked 48th out 50 states. The schools do not have enough teachers let alone good to great teachers one plus you have going for you is your moving in a more populated area Cary is nice I was there just two weeks ago Raleigh the Capital has some nice areas they have a very good museum of art as well as a very good science and history museum in Raleigh Chapel Hill is another nice area traffic is bad on US Interstate 40 during rush hours 3 hours from beach. NC State has one of the very best engineering programs in the country. I used to live in Ft. Myers/Sanibel Island area and I know they have the schools you are talking about Cypress Lake was the Arts HS. not when I was there though.
Google: Wake County Schools and here is a very good link www.dpsnc.net/schools/school-profiles/secondary-school-list/durham-school-of-the-arts good luck like I said you are moving into a good area and they allow thinking outside the box.

No he is in the 7th grade. Here in S FL we have magnet schools for these programs for MS and HS. Though you do have to audition to get enrolled. Overall how are the schools in this area? My husband just accepted a job there and is to start Feb 1st, so this is a bit overwhelming, to say the least. My daughter is in the 4th grade. We still have no idea where we are going to live. We are going to rent for the 1st year since we are unfamiliar with NC., and have rented out our home in FL....this all just came about last week....Thanks for any info and advice.

is he out of high school? the best school of the arts in NC is in Winston-Salem School of the Arts they have summer classes for HS students but typically they are on an invite only status through some HS many have gone on to theater ballet pictures as NC is well connected with the movie industry.
