My 15 yr old hates school and wants to home school?

dianeb
My daughter hates school and she has no friends in the school she attends and has trouble couping with the bullies. She has had this problem for several years now. Is home school the answer? I work full time how is this possible?

Is your daughter currently attending a public school? I'm wondering if she's ever talked to the school social worker, or seen a private counselor or family therapist? While many adolescents feel like they aren't "part of the popular crowd," it's unusual for someone to not feel as if they have any friends....That seems like an issue that should be addressed, separate from your daughter's academic struggles.

Homeschooling is not for everyone. It can take on several "forms" and for high school age students, some people find "cyberschooling" to be a good option...Rather than having a parent prepare individual lesson plans, etc., there is an on-line curriculum and ability to access instructors, although it still requires a certain amount of self-discipline and motivation on the student's part...Rules for cyber-schooling and for homeschooling vary by state, so I'd suggest doing a "google search" to try and locate a parent support network near where you live, and see if they can give you advice.

I'd also like to invite you to join Greatschool's Preventing Bullying Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11560
