Which part of long island do you live. I lived in the University town and there were a good private school along Old Post Rd in Port Jefferson and St. Philip and James catholic school in St James town. The catholic school takes anyone if they have a space, but non-catholic pays more.

My daughter attended this school and at that time it was one of the best schools in the island and small.
Three village school district has a very strong academic reputation and Asian community. The best thing, visit many schools and talk with people around.

I hope this helps!

I'm not from NY, but I'm wondering if you've already tried using the "Research and Compare' feature on the green menu bar near the top of this page? You can enter your location and grade level (in this case, kindergarten is part of elementary) and you will see a list of all public and private schools in that area.

I think it is important to realize that you will find variations in Catholic schools, just as there are variations in other Christian schools, private schools, Montessori schools, and even public schools from city to city in the U.S. My son has a very good friend who is Muslim, and that boy attended a local Catholic school, and had a good experience. I would encourage you to visit any school you were thinking of placing your daughter in, before making a decision.
