Can high schoool student graduate with an associate's degree as we can here in Michigan?

Anonymous
We have duel enrollment for 11th and 12th graders. Depending on grades and graduation requirements high school students can attend community college and graduate with an degree. I hope to relocate to Atlanta but not at the expense of my daughter who is on the honor roll and wants her degree by her senior year.

Hi Anon,

It looks like you've posted this in the Michigan area, so you might not get the responses you'd like. While some states are starting to create the programs you're looking for, you'll have an additional issue of transferability. What courses qualify for an AA in Michigan might not transfer to Georgia.

As healthy11 suggested, I'd contact some schools in the area of Georgia you're looking to move and see what your daughter would be up against. Just a quick Google of "GA dual enrollment associate degree" got me high school/associate degree programs in Decatur at Palm Beach Community College, Gwinnett Technical College in Lawrenceville (just north of Atlanta), and some others.

In addition, I'd like to encourage you to join our College and Beyond group here in the parents community. We're located here: community.greatschools.net/activity/

Hi. I'm not from GA, but I have a son who just graduated from high school in IL, and I've not heard of the Michigan program like you describe in other places. While students near me can take community college courses during high school, they can't take enough credits to be able to get an associate's degree.
I'm wondering if you did a "google search" on "Georgia Department of Education Dual Enrollment" if you could find out whether there is such an option...either that, or repost your question with "Atlanta" in the title, so people from that area might see it more easily, and hopefully be able to respond.
