Thank you for the info, you are right about him being challenged in other areas, and one of them is, he has a hard time sitting still in class. I am thinking of moving him for September not in the middle of the year
I'm not from NY, but are you talking about moving your son NOW, or next year? If I were you, I'd let him finish kindergarten where he's at, and enrich his reading experiences with trips to the library, etc. outside of school hours.
It would probably be worthwhile for you to visit your local public school this spring, and find out more about their programs. Most public schools don't start gifted classes until 3rd grade, if that's what you're looking for. You'll want to ask how they handle grouping children of different abilities.
It's important to realize that kindergarten is not just a time for academic development, but also social and emotional growth....while reading might come easily for your son, perhaps he's being challenged more in other ways.
