Fulton County has lots of charter schools but that does not mean they are good schools. As a matter of fact, the charter schools are pretty poor, at least in Sandy Springs.

DeKalb County is not particularly charter friendly. In GA, for the most part, with very few exceptions, all charter schools must first be approved by the school system they are located in before being approved by the state. School systems across GA are reluctant to support competition.

Hi confusedma, and welcome to GreatSchools.

For the most part, before the 1970s it was assumed that if you lived in a neighborhood, you attended the closest school.

The charter school movement's history is located here: www.uscharterschools.org/pub/uscs_docs/o/history.htm
