Looking for a great Middle School for my 7th Grader

Kiffiney
I am moving to El Dorado next year and need a good school for my 12 year old son. He has ADHD and has problems finishing his homework. He does well on tests, but has problems with organization and keeping track of homework. I would like some suggestions as to a good choice of school for him.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, my son has had a 504 for the last 2 years, and I know that will move with him through high school. I will also take your advice and look for a CHADD chapter in the Placerville area. That is a good place to start. My son is also very small, which has me thinking that now may be a good time to have him repeat a grade. (He is only 4'6" and 83 pounds). That may give him some time to catch up.

I will also join the Greatschools group that you suggest. I will look forward to learning more to help my son progress through school.

Thank you again!

Hi. I'm not from CA, but I also have a son with ADHD and executive functioning difficulties. Does your son have an IEP or 504 accommodation plan? Are you looking for private schools, or public?

Unfortunately, I've found that it's less a case of a "school" being good, than a case of individual teachers having the biggest influence on my son having a good year...I realize in 7th grade the students have multiple teachers, and truthfully, with the onset of adolescence, I think many kids (even those without "diagnosed issues") struggle to keep their focus in middle school.

I realize you haven't moved yet, but my advice would be to contact a parents support group in your new town (see if there's a CHADD Chapter nearby) and network through those parents to find out which local schools and resources they'd recommend in the area. I'd also like to invite you to join Greatschools Learning and Attention Difficulties Group at community.greatschools.net/groups/11554, where many more parents can offer support for what you're dealing with.
