Does anyone know of the best academic elementary school in Irvine?

Jenn0045
I am currently not happy with the academic curriculum in my son's current elementary school. He is "gifted" and learning disabled, and the academic work he is given is leaving him bored and very unhappy. Can anyone recommend an elementary school in Irvine or Tustin that might be more challenging?

Thanks so much for your quick response. Unfortunately, our district's GATE programs starts in 3rd grade. They have slightly differentiated work for kids that are above average but it's not adequate for my son. He's still bored. Since he's bored, his behavior can often be disruptive.

I had no idea there was a name for these kids. I will definitely check out the resources you've compiled.

Hi. I'm also the parent of a gifted/LD son, (they're also known as "2e" or "twice exceptional") and I won't lie...very few schools are able to adequately address the needs of these kids. I've only heard of two school districts (one in Maryland, another in Colorado) that have programs designed for this population. Over the years, I've defined my job as "educating the educators" about the plight of "2e" kids, and I've compiled a bunch of resources at community.greatschools.net/groups/16042.
If you can, I'd suggest talking to the administrators of your son's current school about placing him in the gifted program, with supports for his weak areas (ie, let him keyboard if his writing is poor, etc.)
