Whether or not your son did it in self defense or not he violated the school's rules. If we are talking about fairness then he deserves a consequence. You might want to find out what the consequence should be according to policy but that is all you should do. Whether or not the other student was punished or not is truly not your concern. I do not think a principal owes you an explanation of what the other student got.

I'm sorry this has occurred. Does your school have a parent handbook that describes exactly how disciplinary actions will be taken? I know it may be difficult, but it is vitally important for you to ask your son for his version what happened, and then document exactly what took place, when, where, who was involved, and what was said in your subsequent conversation with the teacher or principal (about the other child also being suspended.) Stick to the facts as you know them, and leave "emotion" out of it. You need to send this letter to the principal, with a copy to the superintendent. If things aren't documented in writing, they don't "count" legally.

you need to take this up with school board,or superintendent.that's what i would do.tell him everything that happened and tell him you feel that it wasn't right for your son to be suspended and the other boy didn't get suspended.hope this was helpful keep me posted and let me know if this worked.
