FundRaisers??????

SeckmanMom
My Daughter is in the 1st grade, and it seems like at least once a week the school is doing some kind of fundraiser. Either they are having Movie Night-Rip Off, or some other form of fundraising and they always say it is for Computers...How many Computers od they need? I don't have time to go to the PTO meetings, but I have never seen all this money be put to use, does anyone know of any other way to find out where all this money is going? I might contribute more if I knew!!!

I agree it gets annoying. What I wish schools would do is. Make a list of what they feel they need. Add up the cost, divide it up by the number of families in the school and just give me a bill! If I was told that I only needed to pay $50 for the whole year and I wouldnt have to sell anything, than I would be totally for that! Oh, and I do the newsletter for our school, so I ask for the PTA total budget and put that right into the newsletter for all to see.

Our school is a private school, but I think this policy would work for any school....

We have a Development Director who must approve all fundraising for the entire school. There is a form that needs to be filled out, etc.

We do TWO major fundraisers a year: one is a Walk-A-Thon and one is a Candy Sale. The whole school participates and the funds are distributed by grade...both of these encourage the students to only ask family and friends and no door-to-door solicitation. We raise between $30-$40K.

We sometimes do a couple of of smaller specific types of fundraisers (flowers at Valentine's Day from the Senior Class, etc.) but that's miniscule.

This has helped us so much!

We got tired of tired of all the fund raiser papers, bake sales, field trip help papers being sent home in our sons folder or backpack asking for help so we bought his class an account of Pleasebringit. We can see what has been chosen and what isn't and if we cant help we can make a donation.

I would suggest contacting the PTO president directly; usually they're involved in deciding how fundraising money is used.

If your child's school has a School Site Council, they are also involved in money spending decisions.
