Most states require a minimum 21 credits. Additionally credits have to be earned in the required content areas. Usually a student will need: 4 credits in English, 3 credits in math - including Alg I and geometry and one advanced math, 3 credits in science - requiring Biology and two other sciences with labs, 2 credits in the same foreign language-for example Spanish I and II,* sometimes students can substitute two years of advanced tech courses (auto repair I and II) or a state approved internship work experience, 3 credits in history - requiring US History, American Government, World History,1/2 credit in physical education, 1/2 credit in Health, 1 credit in foundations of technology, and 1 to 3 credits of electives. In addition students must pass a state exam in US History, English1,Biology, and Algebra 1.
And last but not least - students are required to do a minimum amount of service learning hours.
Diploma requirements can vary from state to state - and often are updated to reflect mandatory changes in curriculum to comply with No Child Left Behind. More than likely you can google your state's board of education and find out your specific diploma requirements from the web page. Some local school districts and private schools require additions to the basic format required by the state. That too, is usually available on line.
I hope I haven't totally confused you!
We see that you've posted a question about Cushing, TX, but we aren't sure if you're asking about a specific high school program, or maybe a community college associate's degree program, or ?
Your best bet is to call your school counselor on Monday, and ask. Sometimes, the number of credits isn't the only thing that matters, because you might need a certain number of credits in particular subjects. (for example, you might have 24 credits, but only 3 are in English, whereas the diploma requirement says a student need 4 English to graduate...otherwise, you might just get a "certificate of completion")
