Moving from Texas to South Carolina

daisynewson
We are in the process of finding a home in SC for our family. My husband is already in the area, and is looking all over the place for good schools. We have a child in 2nd grade and a freshman in HS. What is the best school district?

Wow, Wisconsin, that's a long way! We did the Illinois move, so I feel YOUR pain! We moved to Texas from there when my husband got his first military duty station, and moved all of our own things! If you should need any information about the area, I'll be happy to help. You can get some more info on my site too at

I will be happy to assist you in finding the right fit for your family. The Irmo-Chapin area is great and has a lot to offer. Please do not hesitate to call or email me if I can help you to narrow your search down or send you an updated MLS listings. Have a great weekend!

I feel your pain! We are planning a move from WI to SC this June. We have been scouring the schools and towns online looking for a place that we'll fit. What I have found in the last couple of weeks is that the Lexington District 5 schools have really good ratings. That is Chapin, Irmo and another one.... Hope that helps a little. Good Luck!!!

Most of the schools in our area are very good. If you are looking in the Lexington area, from my experience with families, most would prefer to be in the Midway or New Providence Elementary schools. If you high schooler is active in sports, you may want to consider a school that has a lower student population so that he/she is able to play multiple sports. Welcome to the South!

I am hesitant to answer being I am a realtor, but I must say, as a MOTHER, I am satisfied with the district 2 area and the schools my children attend. The school's reputations vary across the board so I wouldn't necessarily say that any one district is better than the other. I will however, say that they allow you to "Choose" a school your child is not zoned for every January. Being ex military, I had never seen that anywhere else and I love it! If you aren't happy with the school your children attend or you know that there's a particular program at a school that your talented child would excell at, you can apply for them to go there. I have all but 1 of my kids in schools that I chose because they fit their personalities well and they are exceeding tremendously for it. Go to the Richland school district website and click on the "Choice" tabs. The info is there on every program at every school you can choose from...happy hunting!
