I would like to remind all of the parents that whether or not a school is good is not based on personal

opinion. It should be based on testing scores when compared with state average. Click on test scores on top row. Tuba City is well below the average in all subjects.

I don't believe a "good school" should be considered good solely on state testing scores compared to surrounding district's. My children's school district virtually has higher scores on all areas of state testing compared to surrounding communtites. Does this make for a better school district than the others? Not neccesarily, the district would rather pay to fix a track field than pay for new textbooks and upgraded technology. To me, this is not in the right priority order.

Most of the "more intelligent" students are those whose parent/s work in the school district and are granted more services and classes to keep them learning at a more higher level.

Yes, this is a small district and yes, many of the students have certain last names that give them better access to academic programs.

ketrout, I think you bring up a great point here: Finding the "right school" isn't as easy as asking a couple of parents for their opinions. There are so many factors that go into making a school strong--academics, parent involvement, extracurriculars, etc.--that depending on one source of information can be limiting.

Part of the challenge when choosing a school is figuring out what qualities are important to you as a parent and also figuring out what your child needs from a school in order to succeed. It can vary from family to family and child to child.

(Here on GreatSchools we have a page devoted to figuring those specific questions out: www.greatschools.net/content/schoolChoiceCenter.page)

I could make a lot of ugly comments about the grammar in that reply. However, I did not intend for the original post to be a personal attack on anyone that would require the use of all capital letters. I was simply trying to help fellow parents realize that schools need to be investigated thoroughly. It's wonderful if you like your child's teacher. However, that doesn't mean that they are properly preparing them for their future. I was actually considering moving to this area to take a much needed position. Unfortunately, I am reconsidering due to the education that would be provided to my children. It's just my personal opinion. I'm glad that your son had such a good experience and I wish him well with his future.

I am sorry, i do not "agree with you", my son "LIVED", through, it and i really, do not care about their "OVER-ALL"TEST"scores--It is the personal, attention when it comes to a parent. Does the Teacher care??? Does she care if my child is falling behind??? Does she "EMBARRASS" him, when he ask for help???
