I am a mother of a 3rd grader son. He is receiving an IEP for his language disabilities.

He has been doing quite well in this "IN CLASS RESOURCE" set up since two years. This school year has just started and i see him demoralized. his self esteem has gone down. His teacher wants to move him in to the resource room. i think that teacher is not doing her job well in his classroom. she is not supportive at all. my son is a hard worker. does well studies at home. should i complain about the teacher? how? your suggestions will be very helpful. thank you

Is the teacher aware that your son has an IEP?

Whether she is or not, I would suggest you schedule a meeting with her, the special ed coordinator and the principal or assistant principal to discuss your son's IEP and what resources he should be receiving and what accommodations are to be made in the classroom. Also bring a list of his strengths and weaknesses with you, along with your expectations.

Thereafter, keep in communication with his teacher regarding your son's progress. You can also have your son's IEP modified by asking that the teacher provide you with daily or weekly reports on your son. I had my son's IEP state that I was to receive weekly written reports from the teacher regarding my son's progress.
