troubled kidm needs help!

adumas18
ok my son has an anger issue and keeps a lot of it inside, but he explodes certain days. He was enrolled in public schools and continuation schools and has been kicked out almost every school. The last school it seemed if he made even the smallest mistake or had a tiny attitude they would just send him home and not try to work with him. As if the teachers were too lazy to sit him down and talk to him and work with him. Now i am not blaming it all on the teachers i know my son can have a mouth on him, but I just need help finding a school that will not just suspend him and send him home when something wrong happens. I need help finding a school that can help him with his issues and take the time out to teach and work with him. Just a little patients is all I ask for. PLEASE reccomend great schools in or around Oakland he can attend. He is a bright kid but just has a bit of an anger issue.

Your son needs a psychological assessment - which you can request from the school. Many children, coded ED, struggle with oppositional defiance disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, pervasive developmental disorder, and yes bi-polar . These children are entitled to special education services. Your child might need medication as well as counseling. Your school or pediatrician can refer you. It sounds like your son might benefit from an educational environment which is behaviorally driven.
Start by getting the school to do the assessments!

The previous posters have given good advice...I'm also wondering how old your son is? Has he always had a temper? Have you ever discussed his anger issues with his regular doctor, or even better, gotten a referral to a child or adolescent psychiatrist, and had a full evaluation?
I'm not a doctor, but your description makes me wonder if your son might not have a condition such as bipolar. Have you ever looked at the site www.bpkids.org ? Please do consult with a medical professional, because if they can help your son to stabilize his moods he'll be more apt to find success in a school setting.

I have to "agree" with tobbyandlui, you have to find out what is really bothering him, "and believe it or not- he may not really know", since this has been going on for a while.

You need to know what is causing that anger, find the root of the problem, I know it is hard to do this, because some kids prefer to keep it inside and they don't tell their problems to us. My daughter has a hard time controlling her anger. I was directed to take her to counseling so they can help her, they are able to find the problem of your child and direct you to a person that can help your child to control his or her anger. I had noticed that the majority of teens, even smaller kids, experience a lot of anger inside, we need to find what is going on inside their minds and only with a person that is specialized in this matter will be able to find a way to help your child to control it. So my advise is to take him to counseling and go from there, good luck!
