My 5 yeard old came home with fingernails scratch, he claims his teacher has done it.

pingufamily
It was so obvious on his collar bones and shoulder, so my husband took some pictures for his puncture wound on his neck and scratched on collarbones to shoulder.
I called his school and we are going to meet with school director, but it seems his teacher has denied what my son claimed. I just would like to hear advice from everyone. This is first year for his Pre-K and I would like him to be in happy and fun classroom with teachers... I don't know what to do this "she says" "he says" situation.

I learned a lot about this issue and I realized how important to have a camera in classroom. I didn't think much of it till I face this case.
I also learned two tearchers environment is not always the case for pre-K. Aid-teacher can be s tepped out for any reason.....
I think I didn't handle this well without advise from all of you. I hope I can learn more about publich school environment before my son starts elementary school....

Yes, I would like to know as well where can we direct this to? It will be great to have them in elementary, middle and high schools rooms. Thanks you laura1967 for being with me in this.

some high schools, do have them in the hallways...and outside to the parking lot to "protect car damage". SO WHY, NOT the class rooms....Does anyone, know--who I or we as, parents, direct this "IDEA" too. "LOCAL SCHOOL BOARD"?? or higher???

Also they have live cameras on daycares rooms, why not at schools for the safety of our kids. They only have them out but not in every classroom.

cameras are a very "good idea"--they have them on the buses...

I am glad everything went fine for you. My daughter had a similar situation when she was in kindergarten, but as soon as my daughter told me about it, I right away suggested to speak with her teacher to find out what happened, she was denying it, but my daughter even infront of her said that she was the one that did it, so I told her that if this happens again, I will have a meeting with the principal. later on, I found out that her teacher was kicked out of the school, not just because of what happened with my daughter, a lot of parents were complaining as well for the same teacher being rude and other things. We should have live cameras in every room of the schools so we can be able to supervised our children.

I just can't thank you enough all of you to help me get through this difficult situation. His school dismissed the teacher as of today, they put a new teacher in his classroom. School had a discussion with the teacher and they came into the conclusion. I was just so relieved that this issue resolved quickly and all advise I had received helped me a lot. Doctor's documentarion along with pictures and the surveillance camera played great roles this time. I have nothing against to his school, so I am thankful all school stuff and other teachers for taking care of my son. I hope now he can have safe and good time for his first school year.

You might also contact your locality's version of Child Protective Services. My family went through a similar experience here in Virginia last year, and once CPS was notified, they were required to investigate. This investigation went on the preschool's public record, along with the outcome (there were no corroborating witnesses to the "incident" so there was "no fault"; my family resolved the incident by insisting that my son be moved to a different class!).... hope your son is okay - and the rest of your family, too!

Thank you for everyone for helping me to gather my thoughts...as far as my son's injury is scratched thru his entire left shoulder from his neck thru his collaboones to end of his shoulder. He has a puncture wound (we believe that was thumb fingernail) on left side of his neck. We don't think other classmates have that big size of hand as they are all 4 or 5 years old. If I put my hand try to match up with his scars, it fits for sizewise. It looks like someone tried to grab his shirts on his neck and the thumb punctured his side of his neck and rest of 4 fingers scratched thru his entire left shoulder. I can see 4 red long scratches on his collarbones towards his shoulder clearly. When he told me about this, he specified one of his teacher's name to me. We went to Doctor's office and my son's doctor asked him some questions. My son answered one of his teacher's name.... He talked with the director of school today, he told her the same teacher's name.
We made sure with him if he wasn't mixed up with one of the volunteer mom or aid teacher.

I am sorry that your son and yourself are going through this. It is terrible to even have to question if someone hurt your child. No matter who hurt your child, he was hurt and that is a terrible feeling. You both should always feel safe ~ especially at school.
I think that "Healthy 11" wrote was a good point.
Does the marks appear to be large enough for an adult?
Kids are quick to tell on other kids so if it were another child who did this to him, chances are that he would have said so. From my own experience, children rarely lie about caretakers. especially at that age. For the most part kids like their caretakers and look up to them. They don't usually make things up about them. Also, keep in mind that your child looks at the "Teachers Aid" as another teacher, so when he tells you my teacher did this, he might be referring to the aid. Or even another teacher.
At 5, My daughter told me something that "The Teacher" did, and it turns out it was a volunteer from lunch duty. Young Kids look at anyone who works at the school as a "Teacher" even if it's not their own.
Good Luck. I really hope you get some firm answers. P.S. ~ If the teacher did do this (and it sounds like she did) then the teacher should't be moved to another classroom, she should be re-moved from the school. It's never OK to hurt a child.

The school has surveillance cameras; hopefully this incident was caught on tape.

I would suggest you tell the director you want to view the tape, as well. They may tell you the incident was not caught on tape, but you should verify that. Make sure you have a good idea what time the incident occurred. Ask your son if it was before or after recess, or lunch, or during nap time, something like that. Try to get as much detail from your son as you can. What was the teacher doing immediately prior to the incident and what did she do right afterwards, what was your son doing before and after the incident.

Please let us know how your investigation is going.

Hi, we talked with a director from school today and we told her to investigate in detail about this issue. She says that she will check out surveillance camera in calssroom but we might not get to see a whole classroom picture depends on where the teacher and my son were at that time. It's only one camera in classroom by the door. We gave school a statement that we would like to have a full explanation from the teacher and the aid teacher at the day. We also requested either the teacher will be moving to different class or change my son's class. Lastnight, we called in my son's doctor and (I am so thankful for him) he came out his office and took a document and photograph for my son's injury.

Always air on the side of caution. First, you must insure the safety of your child. You need to report the incident to the director ( or principal). You need to photograph the injuries - and if need be report the issue to social services. An investigation needs to occur to determine exactly what happened. If the scratches are from the teacher, the school needs to follow procedures. If the scratches came from another child or children, there still is a supervision issue. If no one can determine where the scratches came from - there still is a safety and supervision issue. The fact that your child came home in this condition, says there is a problem. Do not send your child back until you are satisfied that your son is safe!
I hope that your son is okay.
Take care

Do you think it is "serious" enough for him to get it "DOCUMENTED" by a DOCTOR, if so i would take him to the --emerency room---tonight, so there is a paper trail.....also, if his...words of what has, taken place have not CHANGED, at all, he is possibleable--telling is HONEST TRUETH--and "i would take action ...now.

I'm sorry that this has happened to your son, and I hope he's okay. Does the finger span seem big, like that of an adult, or a child? I can't help but wonder if your son was alone with the teacher when it happened? Most preschool teachers have aides, and there are usually many other children around... Do you know any of the other parents of kids in his class, that you might call ahead of your meeting with the school director, to try and find out if their children saw what happened?

It doesn't sound like your son is in a public school, because they usually have principals, not directors, so were you hoping he could attend kindergarten there next year? If you don't feel you get a "straight answer" at your meeting, I'd certainly consider going elsewhere. In all honesty, I might even ask if he can be moved to a different pre-K room for the rest of this year...
