Movings during school year

Anonymous
We are moving not too far from my son's elementary school, but it is in a different disctrict. I would like to keep him where he is at. Does anyone know if we are required by california law to change schools or does each district have their own set of regulations. Help appreicated on this issue.

I suggest contacting the county school board and asking them. Laws vary from state-to-state, and even county-to-county. Some require you to enroll your child in the specific school zoned for your residence, withdraw them, then enroll them where you want. Others are a bit more lenient as long as it's within the same district. The school board will be able to give you the answers you need, plus any necessary details.

Usually if there you child uses after school daycare located in the old district, the district will allow you to stay. That really can vary from State to State. Can you call your district and get a copy of their policy for zone schools?
