What else can working parents do when there's no school and no annex care?

pixie748
My PTO at work is dwindling- I am wondering what other working parents do on those days that there is no school- and no Annex care is offered? Are there other programs in San Mateo available?

Ask some of the parents of your child's friends if your child can come over for a "play day" explain your situation and let them know you are picking a different friend for each day of the week. Some may even volunteer for more than one day. I handled many week long breaks this way when my son was younger.

My son's a picky eater so I would also bring lunch for all. A small price to pay for such a favor!

Do you have a babysitter you can pay for the day? Example: I have a 16 year old girl who is very reliable & will accept $5.00 per hour. Maybe you can find someone like that. Or even a retired woman who needs extra money & likes kids. Maybe there's a mom of one of your kid's friends who you can alternate taking PTO days and watching each others children.
