What is the atmosphere like at North Broward Prep and/or American Heritage?

ngstubbs
I am a Black single mother of two young boys. My oldest son will attend first grade next year and my youngest will be in preK3. My oldest is very advanced; he was reading, writing, and adding numbers into the hundreds before he entered Kindergarten this year. I would like any information available about these two schools: tips on financial aid, parent involvement, teachers, the competency of the principal, etc. I am a worrisome parent when it comes to education. I do enrichment work with my kids at home. I am more concerned about the info that is learned than the grade that is received. And my children are not behavior problems either.

Thank you very much for the feedback. I will be attending the AH open house as well as the N. Broward Prep open house this weekend.

My son started 8th grade at American Heritage this year. He splits classes between their Academy program and the Heritage program. I have to say that he absolutely loves it. I recently participated in the parent/teacher conference day -- meeting with 5 teachers -- and was very impressed with the quality and concern of the faculty. He has been involved in creative and hands-on projects. I am not involved with the parent group because of work and the distance we live from the school, but it is active. There are a lot of after school enrichment activities available at the elementary level. For kids who stay all the way through, their high school has unique offerings that you will find nowhere else-- pre-engineering, pre-law, and pre-med programs. AH has many graduates accepted into the Ivy Leagues, has a top-notch athletic program, and performing arts opportunities second to none. My son has felt very welcomed by the other kids and has made friends. I previously visited the N. Broward Prep campus and can tell you that AH offers a more diverse environment if that is important to you. This school really offers something for everyone.
