My kids are in K/1st and they eat as well @ 10.35 and they also eat school breakfast. I will pack them a snack like fruit and a bag of pretzels or send them with a dollar to get a afternoon snack. They also go to aftercare so they automatically get a afterschool snack there as well. Hope this info helps.

My daughter started kindergarten this year and her lunch is at 10:35am as well. That is pretty early but when I commented on the early hour to her teacher at open house, she said that actually, the kids are really hungry by then because school starts at 7:30am. They have a snack around 12:30-1pm, but this is a parent packed snack!

I substitute as an aide at the school and, frankly, am feeling famished by 10:35, too! So, for concentration, it really is not too early when they start so early.

You might want to double check with the teacher or teacher's aide to see about sending a snack. If there is not an official snack time for the class, you might want to say that you're concerned about the length of time between lunch and after school snack and the drop in blood sugar that affects your child's concentration (and some kid's behavior), so you'll be sending some goldfish or apple for your child to have around the typical noon lunch time.

If you are clear and calm about your concerns, your child's teacher should be understanding. After all, it is beneficial to her to have children who are able to focus on the lesson rather than a growling stomach!

how old are your kids???? Could you send additional food with your kids or pack them a more sustaining lunch???? 10:35 is early, but depending on the school's schedule it may be unavoidable..... maybe suggest an afternoon snack time. My students eat at 11:00 and I give them a parent donated snack around 1:20.
