Child Peace Montessori! I nannied for a family for 5 years and both their children attend there. The oldest is 10 now, she started at 3 and the their youngest is 7 and started at 18 months. The Toddler Community is well staffed the same with Children's House. The building is secure and located in the Pearl District. The teachers and staff are kind, nurturing and AMI certified. Here is their website. www.childpeace.org/
Providence Montessori is fantastic! My daughter began there this past fall (2008) at age 3 1/2 (they'll take as young as 2 1/2 if they're bathroom independent), and LOVES it. She has told me "I love school" so many times this year I've lost count, and often when we're not even talking about school! This means a great deal to me as, though I work full-time, until now she's spent at most 3 days in non-home care (and that only last spring), and I was a bit reluctant for her to be in an institution for so much of the day. What I've found, however, is that the "Children's House" concept of Montessori really applies--I feel that she experiences her school as a second home, where she has the freedom to explore, learn, play, rest, and even snack, as she feels the need. The guides, staff, parents and administration are so friendly--we have felt welcome from the moment we walked in the door. The materials in all the classrooms are first-rate, and the guides and assistants are wonderful at creating a calm and loving atmosphere in the classroom that is a great safe space for the children to learn and explore those materials. The staff is as committed to Montessori as the guides, as they are either former guides or parents of students in the program. We have also been happy with the school from an administrative side--they're very responsive, well-organized, and efficient. We couldn't be happier!
Montessori of Alameda (MOA) has been a fantastic place for my children! my 2 year old is in the toddler room, and my 5 year old in primary classroom. After seeing Monessori in action, I want to continue their education with this philosophy.
