How are the school's for military children?

colleenmerkins
We are pcsing to Schofield soon and I am worried about the schools. Has anyone had any particularly good or bad experience with a school regarding their children being military children. I am worried about my children feeling like outcasts and also the teachers not understanding their life, ie. deployments and frequent moves. Thanks in advance, Colleen

My children went to Holomua Elementary in Ewa Beach (off post) for 4 years. They were never made to feel like outcasts. Even though only around 17% of the student body was military, the school was very supportive. Every year they held a deployment group for students affected by deployment. The principal is a veteran and goes out of his way to thank and acknowledge the military families. We were very happy at this school and now that we're back on the mainland we really miss it!

Wowof3,
Thank you for replying. It was very helpful. What school do your children attend on post? Thanks again!

Colleen,
Don't worry your children will not feel like outcasts. There are schools on base that are about 98% military. The biggest issue is probably the large class sizes due to the influx of soldiers coming here. Sorry I dont have any children attending school off base so I can't help you there. But I can say that I have a middle schooler who does school sports and the schools we have competed against all have great sportsmanship. Hope this was helpful!
