All school systems need to make difficult decisions when budgets are tight and enrollment is down. Griffith has no growth, thus we have fewer and fewer students. School upkeep, maintenance and payroll is very costly, thus consolodating is sad, but makes good business sense. The school board is not heartless. I'm sure they know the history and passion that parents, staff and students have for their school, however in tough economic times the board is responsible to make difficult unpopular decisions. The other puplic schools, as well as St. Mary's school, have space and room for growth, thus it appears Franklin is the odd school out. Hopefully the building will not remain vacant like many other local businesses. I've also heard a rumor about Ivy Tech or possibly a new Forest Ridge High school location.
