How often is too often to have lunch w/ your child at school?

dinabengfort
I have lunch w/ my kids (K & 2nd grade) 1-2 times a week and have started feeling like I am the one all the teachers are talking about. In your opinion is that too much?? The principal has told me that if I keep coming for lunch my daughter will never learn to "spread her wings" and be "more independent." How would you feel about that response??

It depends on what you do during your child's lunch. Are you opening her food, putting the napkin in her lap and generally hovering? Or are you going with the idea that you can assist the teacher in making lunch go as smoothly as possible for the entire class? Are you encouraging the children to follow the rules or figuring that since you are there the rules can be a little more lax that day? Is it because you can't let go, or is it to enrich her school experience? Think about the reasons why you join her for lunch, and I think you will know if you are there too often or not.
