Grade Accelaration

axkotha
My child is in 3rd grade and totally bored. He knows more than his peers and is now making silly mistakes in his work due to overconfidence. Should I request for him to skip a grade so that he is challenged enough?

There is a gifted support teacher at the school with whom you can meet. I would suggest contacting the guidance counselor and setting up a meeting with her to discuss your questions. Some children benefit by skipping a grade, whereas others do well with having some accelerated work with the gifted teacher. The gifted teacher can come into your child's classroom and work with him during class on a more accelerated level.
