How much homework is your middle school getting every night and during weekends?

Anonymous
I feel homework load is excessive. It is invading our private life and time. It refrain us from doing things we like to do as family. There are many studies (more than 180) that show that homework does not help our children. This burden makes children drop out of school earlier because they get so tired of living 13 hours a day doing school work that sometimes they see it as the easiest solution to this problem. The shocking thing is that parents struggle with this issue and do not complaint because they think it is normal.

This is taken from: www.dial-a-teacher.com/homework_fr.html

Grade Level Frequency of Assignments Total Daily Average (All Subjects)
K - 1 Daily (5 days a week) 30 minutes
2 - 3 Daily (5 days a week) 45 minutes
4 - 5 Daily (5 days a week) 60 minutes
6 - 7 - 8 Daily (5 days a week) 75 minutes
9 - 12 Daily (5 days a week) 120 minutes

Why my child have to spend 4 to 5 hours daily doing homework or projects? Please give me your feedback. Am I wrong?

Home schooling is a good way but not all people can do it- the good thing about it is that you can go your own pace in the books.:)

You are right! My 7th grader's homework level is 2-3 hours weeknights, and 4 hours on a easier weekend. If he gets behind any day, the next evening is 4 hours, which has him up past his bedtime. He doesn't want to go to soccer practice because that would take 90 minutes out of his evening that he doesn't feel he can spare. The school is not interested in changing. You're right - many parents think this is either normal or they feel powerless or too busy to change it. We're looking at other schools. He's 12 and would like a life beyond his desk!

I can usually finish homework in the class its given. They always gives us a little time at the end of class, but we do have homework just about every night. On the weekends we HARDLY EVER get homework unless it's a big project that will take a while.I believe our homework system is pretty fair at my school if you ask me.
