An 80% is now a D, where as most schools that would be a B. GPA's will go down. What can be done to make this fair to the students!?

Raising the grading scale is not going to help the children if they are prepared with up to date materials for studying. If the teachers are teaching from out of date materials, how is that helping the children. My grandson is in kindergarden; the teacher sends him home with homework for the week which is good. Now the children has 5 days out of school and he sends them home with not any homework. What sense does that make?

I don't know how fair or unfair this is unless there is some uniformity to the tests and assignments nationally. If the material is being covered in a more superficial manner and the tests/assignments are easier, then 80% might still be easier to achieve than 65% in a more rigorous school.

That being said, given the dismal achievement statistics in most of the CPS system, then it's hard to imagine how stiffening the grading system will help so many failing kids.
