holding boys back a year for kindergarten for maturity reasons

nm2butler
any advice about whether or not boys should be held back from kindergarten until six because of maturity. How mature are 5 year olds supposed to be anyway. Boy will be 5 August 30, 2009 and hubby thinks he should wait until the following year to start kindergarten, at six. He has been in nursery school/pre-school since two.

Unless the child was a preemie I don't see a reason to hold him back. That puts him begining his senior year at 18 years old, which could wind up being a handful.
