Therapist for Mom in NW Suburbs of Chicago

mom2twinboys
I live in the northwest suburbs (Algonquin, Elgin, Lake in the Hills) and am looking for a therapist and a psychiatrist for myself. I have an 11 year old son with many special needs and I am about ready to crack. I do have a psychiatrist right now but he is closing his private practice next month.

Please help.

I don't think that this board is a good place to look for doctor referrals.

Has your retiring doc not referred you to anyone else? That seems the first place to start. It seems odd that he hasn't made arrangements for his patients.

Also ask your GP. Ask your son's doctors. It seems to me that doctors love to refer people to their friends & colleagues. There tend to be loose networks of colleagues that all serve on boards together.

Get a list from your insurance company. Get names from the local hospital referral service. Sometimes they even have a lower priced clinic with grad students. At least Evanston Hospital does.

I have twin 12 year olds who are both ADHD and dyslexic. I often have their professionals ask if I need my own therapist to help me cope. I could sure use help coping, but I really can't cope with the idea of yet another standing appt. to attend every week. ;)
