Triennial Testing for IEP

Chancellor
My son is 11 years old, 5th grader, and has an IEP - on consultation only. He hasn't been tested since either Kindergarten or 1st grade. Since he is just on an 'consultation basis' only, are they required to retest him since it's been so long or is he exempt from retesting because he's just on consultation only?

where are you located and what is a "consultation basis"? What type of disability?
Either the child has a IEP or a 504 Plan. If he has an IEP you as the parent may request testing at anytime. 504 give the school more lead way and they can refuse to retest, but if he's on any kind of IEP, the parent may always request testing. Just depends on the disability your looking at.

Sorry I forgot; regular IEP's are done ever year. Triennial are done every 3 years and include, pysch, emotional, social ,standard testing reviews for current levels, (i.e. PALS) usually they also contain teacher observations/reviews and any other testing you request to be done. It's never too late to stand up for your child. You also have the right to ask for an outside evaluation of the child at your districts expense. (if he has an IEP) Depending on the disability, I always try to include a FBA. (Functional Behavioral Assessment) this can go a long way.
