How can I get involved in my daughters school? I live in denver and she is living with her dad in douglas?

Kendramama
We are in a difficult divorce process and by court decicion she is going to school by her dad in douglas county. I live in denver and currently without a drivers lisence so getting involved is difficlut and I'm not sure how to start. I am signed up at the office for volenters but haven't heard anything (this could be because of her dad) but I really want to share this process with my daughter!

What does the court say as to your allowed involvement with your child at school? Are you allowed to have contact with her at school? Is her dad allowed to prohibit you from volunteering? Don't step over any legal boundaries -- the school will have all of your information on file, so you can't get around it if you're not supposed to be there.

If you don't have a way to get to her school, volunteering is going to be difficult. However, contact her teacher, whose e-mail address will be Firstname.Lastname@dcsdk12.org. Perhaps you and the teacher can come up with ideas on how you can participate.

Know that each school in Douglas County has a volunteer coordinator whose job it is to find volunteers for all-school-type needs, such as vision and hearing testing, school festivals, and so forth. Your child's teacher is who you should contact as far as working in the classroom. I'm assuming your daughter is in elementary school -- the middle schools and high schools don't use parent volunteers in the classrooms for the most part, except for assisting with special projects. If your daughter is in middle school or high school, then you should contact the school's volunteer coordinator.

I live in Douglas County, so I know how the process works.
