We have lived in Plano for 9 yrs & have 2 kids in Elementary school - we have been exceptionally pleased. We have found all of the staff- teachers, principal, support staff - to be very supportive and work hard to ensure all students succeed. Our concerns have always been addressed immediately and with a "we can solve this together" attitude. The schools encourage parental envolvement. That said each school has its own personality and it would be a good idea to visit the different schools and check out the scores of each school. Other cities try to duplicate Plano & claim to be close but they aren't - just ask any parent that has sent a child on to college from Plano - students are taught to succeed. Some of the best schools in Plano don't have any apartments feeding into them so you may also want to check out leasing a house. Good Luck!

You need to know that Plano has very strict (and not student-friendly)guidelines when it comes to grading student performance. Although both my sons are gifted, Plano ISD doesn't know how to meet children's individual learning styles except by using a few standardized tests. I had to take my older son out of the Plano ISD (Wilson Middle School--a REAL nightmare according to many parents I've spoken to) and had him do correspondence school for two years. My younger son learned to read at 4, and displays clear giftedness according to his K teacher, but the school's testing system didn't recommend him for the gifted program. All this to say that It's sad, but no matter which school you choose in Plano, there's a systemic problem in teaching to the individual children, and you'll need to advocate for your child EVERY year, feel like a helicopter parent (hovering all the time), and if you notice your child becoming bored or failing, seek private schools that are better equipped to challenge your child's natural reservoir of talent. Unfortunately, we're going to have to seek another school for our younger son, now. His older brother is now excelling in an Arts Magnet school outside of Plano ISD.

There was another poster with the same dilemma just recently, and everyone believes you would be better off finding a school first, and then selecting an apartment that is within the attendance boundaries of that school.
