Is it better to switch schools right away or wait until january?

BRIGITROUSSEAU
We have 2 girls in first grade and 6th grade. We are moving to another state and we are trying to decide what is best for them in terms of adjustment. Our choices are to move the whole family at once in October or for me to move alone and my husband will follow with the kids in December.

I moved from NY to Florida in October and my 3rd grader adjusted fine. In fact, she originally started out in one school in Florida, 3 months later, we transferred her to another school (public to private). NOW, 2 yrs later, she'll be moved from private back to public. She is one of those children who like a routine BUT she has been able to adjust fine. It really matters on how secure they are in the home. Remeber that children are far more resilient and adaptable that most adults!

I think it depends on whether or not they are good at easily adapting to other schools and kids! September 24th i believe is "count Day" and you may have problems with your children getting what they deserve in a new school at that time. The funding goes for your children to the school they were at at that day. They are not supposed to be affected by it but sometimes they are! Sad but true it also depends on the district you are enrolling them into. I personally would want them to stay in the school but they will have only been there a month so you should talk to your kids so they can "say Goodbye" and make a family decision remember your kids will need you also.. Do what is best for your family... If your all going by January then the sooner you take them out the better. Again check your districts info that your moving to and weigh the pros and cons...Tough decision I bet for you Good Luck!
